Kitchen Appliances
Now that kitchen appliances are so inexpensive to buy, we tend to replace them increasingly frequently and throw out the old ones or dump them in a cupboard never to be used again. It is just as important to think carefully about how to dispose of an old appliance as it is to decide which new one to buy as a replacement: charity shops will usually find a home for second-hand appliances and local authority recycling facilities can recycle the parts of faulty machines.
When buying a new kitchen appliance – whether a toaster, kettle or deep fat fryer – it won’t have an energy rating label in the same way as a fridge or washing machine, so it’s best to use the energy consumption figures to compare efficiency between appliances.
