Televisions (tv’s)
The production process to manufacture a television consumes a vast amount of energy and raw material, whilst simultaneously creating hazardous waste through circuit board assembly. A key consideration when buying a new TV is to make sure that the old unit is recycled or used for scrap rather than simply discarded – or try to find a new home for it! It is also worth looking around for a second hand television rather than buying brand new. Bear in mind that TVs still consume power when in standby, so always turn it off fully when not in use; Friends of the Earth estimate that we waste over £10m of energy every year through leaving TVs on standby.
